Cask-handling cranes are typically located in the auxiliary building of a PWR plant and some BWR plants. The main hoist is sized for handling a spent fuel transfer cask. To meet NRC guidelines and to assure the user of the safest heavy load handling technology available, PaR Nuclear provides our NRC-accepted single-failure-proof design. Cask cranes typically have a small auxiliary hoist for handling lighter loads. The auxiliary hoist may also be single-failure-proof if necessary.
PaR Nuclear has upgraded numerous cask-handling cranes to meet the NRC guidelines for single-failure-proof cranes. When needed we also re-perform seismic analysis and provide engineering, equipment upgrade, and licensing support for existing crane structures used with new single-failure-proof hoisting systems.
